God Saves--the Sinner's Prayer Only Hurts People

Great testimony from a brother from Lake Road Chapel. We're not overreacting or nitpicking here. The "sinner's prayer" gives people a false assurance of salvation, and has helped to send millions of people to hell.

Oh that our prayer meetings would look like this!

"The fact that Whitefield was again in London drew not only the Wesleys to greet him. Four other Holy Club men came also. The seven entered with intense fervor into the already ardent meetings of the Fetter Lane Society, and we feel something of their enthusiasm as we read Whitefield's report:

'Sometimes whole nights were spent in prayer. Often we have been filled as with new wine. And often have we seen them overwhelmed with the divine presence and crying out, "Will God indeed dwell with men upon the earth! How dreadful is this place! This is none other than the house of God and the gate of Heaven!'

But John Wesley had a still more striking account of their fellowship. On New Year's night, as they met with "about sixty brethren" for the Moravian Love Feast,

'About three in the morning, as we were continuing instant in prayer, the power of God came mightily upon us, insomuch that many cried out for exceeding joy, and many fell to the ground. As soon as we were recovered a little from that awe and amazement at the presence of His majesty, we broke out with one voice, "We praise Thee, O God; we acknowledge Thee to be the Lord!"' "

El Centro, Guadalajara

Downtown Guadalajara. This is where we regularly go out to preach (about 3 times a week). It's HUGE, filled with parks and plazas spanning many miles, and TEEMING with people all throughout the week. It's an open air preachers dream.

Here's Josef and Lina in Plaza Tapatía on Saturday. He preached in English and she translated. They decided to Whitefield it this time (not using an amp), hoping this would draw in people.

They drew a small crowd, and eventually it started to grow...

...And got HUGE!

There were many receptive people and many great conversations. They were just so hungry for spiritual things. Some of them even came up to us at the end and asked us, "What must I do to be saved?" (And no, we didn't lead them in the "sinner's prayer" ;-]). Praise the Lord!

Salvation Testimony
